What is the solution if one of the involved parties don't want to negotiate? Deciding "well, we're going to vote anyway" is totally right.
You're assuming the "will of the Catalonian people" must be respected over the will of all Spanish people. That's not a foregone conclusion.

Again, this is a complicated issue and there's certainly a point to pushing the process forward in some workable way, but not this way.

It would be nice if the Spanish government made things easier for Catalonia, but if they don't, ignoring the law isn't going to fix it.

That's kind of how most countries are set up. Otherwise all constitutions would have a "anyone can leave" clause.
