Sure it's acceptable now, but this is at idle and I'm concerned it will get worse with more load.

I remember thinking the same thing many years ago. It rarely dips. The 12v rail is powerful. But monitor it via software to confirm

Is this a cheap or a good PSU? have you had an indication to check on the PSU? or just happened to see that?

It's a 10 year old PSU. The only reason I was checking is because I about to install a new one and wanted to see how it was going.

OK, a 10 year old PSU needs to be replaced.

I thought it would be prudent. Especially since I was about to replace my gtx960 with a gtx1080ti.

Just because it's low doesn't mean it'll drop lower with load. Heck, some PSU designs go *up* with load (to a point).

I'm more concerned about it dropping further with age. It was 12v when I bought it, 11.92v 5 years ago, 11.85v 2 years ago, 11.73v now.

Bad caps maybe? Or it might have an unregulated 12V rail that is drifting relative to whatever rails they do regulate...

A 10 year old PSU is prime for replacement. I'd still visually inspect all the caps to avoid any unpleasant surprise

Sure, at that age it's prudent, but knowing the root cause of the drift would still be interesting.

I was planning to re-use this power supply in a dev machine that I'm building (w/ AMD bulldozer). Let's take a look.

A visual inspection shows all caps are fine. SamXon branded.pic.twitter.com/8VRg9YfHUp

I was actually talking about the mobo's caps. If they're bad, the PSU is likely what damaged them
