I'm pretty sure I still have a card like that somewhere in my stash - used it to connect a 486 (with BNC only) and Celeron back in the day.
Back before my dad moved his office back home we were still using an old P90 and PII (I think?) as firewall and server w/thinnet.

The rest of the network was 100BASE-TX, but that PC-to-PC link didn't need much performance and we had those cards lying around, so...

In my case it was to provide dial-up internet to the 486 (through Win98SE Internet Connection Sharing).
