Did I mention I rewrote Microchip's PIC18 USB stack in assembler once? I think I'm still cursed from that.
(And getting the paid compiler for free wasn't hard; their "upgrader" would install if you created an .exe file of the right size!)

I actually wound up using SDCC for PIC18 at one point and that was way, way better than Microchip's C18.

I’ve been using their XC8, except for low level stuff requiring asm. I will try SDCC, thanks for the tip!
