Just got an email in Chinese. I've previously received emails in French and such. What makes people think I know their language?

Parce que Martin est l'un des noms les plus communs en France. Just add your surname to your profile... For the chinese though,
Martin *is* my surname. It's not rare for names to be the same across languages. Doesn't mean I speak French (though I understood *that* :P)
