Because that would involve taking apart my laptop, which is a much bigger pain in the ass. But I could probably fix the real problem there.
I think the real problem is lack of pull-ups/pull-downs on the input to a level shifter chip between the ICH and the output.

Clevo P151EM1. It's pretty good but it has at least two hardware design flaws (this and too low AC coupling caps on the headphone out).
