Oh ffs, why not just plain i2c, SMBus is a problem enough as it is (only 100kHz), there's just no need for another variant

It really is just another name for yet another half-assed I²C controller (this one does support up to 1MHz though)

Oh but this board has all of SMBUS, GMBUS, and probably another half dozen I²C compatible buses, so you'd better define a data structure...

afaik, the I2C compatible interfaces arose because you need to pay royalties to Philips if you want to call it I2C..
