Being able to use my parallel port to bitbang data is actually really convenient. Wish I could do this with USB without the latency.

USB on PC has non-negligible latency? I've never had to do real-time communication over USB, but if so, that really sucks.
It's worse. *Everything* on PC has potentially milliseconds of latency. Ever since SMM your BIOS can randomly steal the CPU.

So even if you're using a real parallel port, if latency spikes will break your app, your app will rarely and randomly break.
