Mumble depends on speech-dispatcher, speech-dispatcher always runs, sends wakeups to PA for no reason, kills battery life. GG
And this is why I run Gentoo (and why I'm pissed off at the rolling Ubuntu upgrade at work today taking ages). Screw useless dependencies.

The real issue here is that Arch Linux doesn't package libspeechd separate from speech-dispatcher like Debian does

speech-dispatcher is started under the assumption you're vision impaired, whereas mumble just uses it for TTS. socket activation would help
