Had the same issue for an entire office complex when the contractor bought the cheapest ethernet cable possible.

No label. It's a shitty batch of speaker wire I bought in a shop in the US 10y ago. Didn't realize it was fake until I tried to solder it.

Something like that. The more I tried to tin it/solder it, the worse the solder would take. It ended up working at lower temperature but...
