Not much, just wget a raw 4bpp bitmap (palette is hardcoded), convert, crop, diff... bunch of imagemagick commands. But it helps immensely.
More importantly, I started by manually putting together a reference image that looked good w/limited palette based on the original sprites.pic.twitter.com/JLsy0MBlxw

When I started the sprites were there, but somewhat mangled, and Remilia (top left) was way off. We kept her ribbon on the left though.

Goal was getting the ref into an easy to use, obviously-correct form that everyone could agree on using; previously it was inconsistent.
