The Nintendo Switch charger *correctly* identifies itself as a 1.5A capable charger. Many devices *incorrectly* try to draw more current.

tried to charge a friend's phone with it and after that my switch wouldn't charge anymore... so just need to power cycle charger?

Yes. Unplug it and plug it back in. Your friend's phone violates the spec.
