I found two screws rattling inside and the PCB wasn't independently screwed in, only via the plastic piece on top. iFixit photos confirm.
I think they swapped the pair meant for the rail buttons PCB (short) with the pair for the main PCB (long).

Nope, not that, the long ones don't screw into the PCB posts, and the rail PCB screws are correct. In fact, left Joy-Con screws are the same

Conclusion: they stripped the threads in my Joy-Con, completely (and cleanly). Explains the plastic dust I saw inside. Screws fell out. WTF.pic.twitter.com/kU1P8yf14q
