Ignore my previous tweet about nonstandard pinout. Was confused; the chip supports 2-lane mode. Cannot confirm or deny standards compliance.
If I had to guess, the thing with the Switch video output is it really wants to be connected to a USB-PD source before going into dock mode.

The dock has a microcontroller connected to an internal USB2 port on the hub chip. Possibly used for power management?

It would be interesting if it could output 720p (tablet GPU mode) over any old standard DisplayPort cable, but I guess it doesn't.
