Do you know if other hashing algorithms would show collisions as well for this format trick?
The collision part and the format part are not related. You first figure out how to make collisions, then how to apply to fmt.

SHA-1 doesn't care about anything in that diagram except the collision blocks (not explained here; read the paper for that)
