No, but it didn't boot after I was done. I can't think of anything I did wrong, I'll find out next month. Was a good test.

what in the world... Which distros did you test this with?

Some 3 year old debian install. Should be adaptable to anything with a self-reloading /sbin/init, mostly.

This is probably actually useful if you salvage a running box in a really fucked up state, like after partial rm -rf /

Yeah, it should be possible to fix a box as long as you have a shell and have at least one idle 755 binary left.
