FWIW, most of the "OMG hax over USB" panic is overblown. It's a debug tool, you have to explicitly enable it (unless mobo maker fucked up).

my understanding is that the cpu has it enabled by default and mobo fw has to disable it.Not every vendor cares :-/

There's more than one TAP accessible via DCI. Wouldn't be surprised if you could still take over w/o x86 JTAG.

What CPU works for you? With 6700k (SDFC=C0000001) and z170 I got the DCI host but it's very buggy. DCI does not answer properly?!
