Just found a "once in a blue-moon" glitchy bug.

It could still be the wrong ID. You can only fix this by either disabling interrupts or doing an atomic write.
Atomic write is the correct fix - collect bits first in a temp var then copy to dipval
And you need to make sure dipval is volatile or the compiler might optimize the temp var out behind your back ;)
