Couldn't resolve addr in firefox/curl but could via ping. Solution was disabling ipv6! What!? Modern linux is weird...
You probably have bad IPv6 connectivity. Try http://ipv6-test.com . That usually means you have v6 addr/GW but it doesn't work.

yes. Not sure why resolving fails though, not resolving v6 addr... Or why ping works... I'm guessing libresolv/nssswitch issue?
