I can understand some aspects of voter ID requirements being proposed, but they need to ask if those are too onerous.

This. Countries with mandatory ID cards can require them to vote, works great. The US is not such a country.

ID cards are a perfectly normal thing in democratic, western European countries.

They were imported as part of the campaign to stop the Malayan Commie Insurgency.
