Ubuntu Server allocates 128GB of swap partition by default on this 128GB RAM server... Outdated rule of thumb is outdated.

New rule: Disable swap entirely. If you go into swap on a modern machine you've got a runaway memory leak so OOMkill is inevitable

Unfortunately it will evict every mmaped clean vfs page from the system before OOM'ing... which is worse than swapping

Yeah, I hate this behavior. I think cgroups can fix it by imposing a max on dirty pages lower than total RAM.
