The problem is it's impossible to dedicate engineering time to all candidates. You *need* a prescreen.

I sat next to the recruiters giving out prescreens for months and you have *no idea* how bad it is.

oh I don't only mean that, literally every interaction I've had with google recruitment has been incompetent

I've gotten multiple creepy emails from them, none of which identified my field of work correctly

(but all picked something different than the previous email)

they pitched the company to my former manager, who was married, as "just like the college dorms"

an acquaintance walked out halfway through because the interviews were so bad. HR wasn't even informed of it

Okay, that's pretty sad. Maybe it's better in the EU offices? I had a pretty good experience myself.
