Best part is the strings, dumped to JSON, are just 72kB. But inserting them into a tree takes 500kB. Because C++.

Of course, using a resource file and parsing it instead of hardcoding everything in code would've been too complicated.

Nope, this is an embedded system (running Linux on a PC). It's a bunch of string resources (in two languages).
