      Apparently GRUB2 can't boot headless (on some machines) with default Debian settings because it tries to use gfx mode and fails. WTF.

      @evilynux It clearly has to do with how the BIOS reacts in the absence of a monitor. In this case I guess it just fails VBE calls.

      @evilynux The dumb dumb bit is that GRUB2 apparently defaults to gfx mode to display a text menu... and cannot fallback!
