Just installed a new Win 7 VM and I can't even get the keyboard layout correct (Japanese) without fucking around with the registry. WTF, MS?

@kathampy Specifically the Japanese one is broken. I can select the Spanish layout and it works. It has to do with 106-key keyboards.
@kathampy Basically, Windows has some deeply-rooted driver setting that needs to change for Japanese, and THERE IS NO UI FOR IT.

@kathampy Apparently it relies on autodetection for this, but there are *TONS* of USB keyboards that do not have a layout code. -
@kathampy No other OS has this problem. On Linux and OSX, keyboard layouts are keyboard layouts, and Japanese is just another layout. - Show replies
