      @ChilliTronix @talldarknweirdo Essentially, the FT232RL's 32bit EEPROM thing is itself a not-quite-compatible hack which clones didn't need.

      @ChilliTronix @talldarknweirdo No. My point is that their bricker code would brick non-232RL chips *if it weren't checking for 232RL only*.

      @ChilliTronix @talldarknweirdo IOW, FTDI's chips *except* the 232RL behave the same as the clones. But they check for 232RL before bricking.

      @ChilliTronix @talldarknweirdo No, because they don't use the PID to determine the chip type, they use bcdDevice which is not changeable.
