      Does anyone know how to DNAT packets sent to 255.255.255.255? They never seem to hit nat.PREROUTING in iptables (just mangle and fillter).

      Yes @marcan42 you need to use eatables and match ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff as destination.

      @faye_p Yeah, that will probably work fine. I'll have to build ebtables in (this is openwrt). I don't get why iptables doesn't work though.

      @marcan42 something about because it is broadcast it is intercepted at layer two and never reaches 3, just gets quickly forwarded on or not.

      @faye_p it does go through layer 3 (it does hit raw and mangle) but it seems to skip routing and go straight through the INPUT path.

          @faye_p I figured it out. The iptables nat table is only traversed if the connection is conntracked, and broadcasts aren't, of course.
