Am I the only one who finds gratuitous editor war jokes completely dead, distasteful and childish? I say this as a vim user with zero interest in emacs. This stuff was funny when I was 12, and now I realize most people making these jokes weren't/aren't teenagers 🙄.pic.twitter.com/sesh0D7dln

Childish? Absolutely. But honestly the older I get the more it just bores me. I mean what could be more boring than spending one's time making text editor arguments. Just use the thing you like to use to type stuff and create.

A text editor change can be like when the thrill returns when using a new mechanical keyboard after using a short throw laptop keyboard. A rush from instead expressivity of imagination and creativity. Boredom does suck. Buuut congrats on living long enough to be bored this way..?

speaking as a canadian, I feel canadian jokes long since jumped the beaver dam but that does not stop people from telling them when they find out I am one, like it’s the most hilarious thing ever and I have to agree I think that’s a similar kind of mentality

People always think their joke's are funny even when they lack all originality. I had a similar problem and I just started telling people "Yeah, that joke was funny the first dozen times I heard it." People usually realize their blunder without getting too upset. YMMV 🤷‍♂️

The sunglasses emoji sets it over the edge for me. I can deal with the jokes, but tacking on the emoji just adds that extra bit of smug self-pat-on-the-back that would be annoying regardless of what the joke was that preceded it.

I still occasionally like to crack the joke that when the Hurd kernel releases, Emacs will finally be the fully featured OS it was always meant to be.

i think the only instance where i got a slight chuckle is google saying "did you mean <the other one>" when you search for vi or emacs

Making jokes about the *existence* of the editor wars, without taking sides, is different though.
