The Suga government has been *seriously* dragging its feet with COVID-19; the only reason it hasn't completely exploded here yet is voluntary mask/social distancing norms have somewhat mellowed it out. The government made things worse with a program *promoting* tourism.
The SoE is half-assed as usual, but during the first wave it worked because it got people to react (voluntarily). I can only hope it has a similar effect this time, even though legally it is largely symbolic.
It would've been really nice if they'd done this *before* the new year holiday, before a bazillion people decided it would be a perfectly good idea to travel back to their home towns from Tokyo and spread the virus all over the country.
Anyway, I'm fine. I've been WFH (for the work I've done in 2020) since March, and the sole event I had already planned for early 2021 I will absolutely cancel unless case rates take a sharp dive down with the SoE.
I just hope we don't get another stupid toilet paper rush
