It's always interesting seeing what order packages end up in. What does everything else depend on? (1 of 1337) sys-kernel/linux-headers-5.10 Cool. (2 of 1337) sys-libs/glibc-2.32-r6 Of course. (3 of 1337) sci-libs/fftw-3.3.9 ... really? I mean it's used a lot but...

Challenge failed, mostly because I was too busy to babysit it when packages failed and broke the rebuild tree (boost. it's always boost breaking a build.) ~just 30 packages left and we're in 2021. So close!

Curious to know if it would have been faster to re-install an newer version of Gentoo from scratch?

A blank one? Sure, that takes just a few minutes. One with all these packages and USE flags? Definitely not, I wasn't rebuilding *anything* and that would've had the same problems.

Well, I guess lack of older packages would've stopped emerge from aborting on certain failures. So it would've required less babysitting. The reason for that is that emerge aborts if it would break a package you already have installed. A new install just... would never install it

Thank you -- I've never used Gentoo, so I'm not familiar with the USE flags...

Also I meant I wasn't rebuilding everything. Obviously I'm rebuilding some things, over half the packages, but not all of them :p
