So I just learned that the basis of wifi, bluetooth and some miltary technologies was invented by actress Hedy Lamar, who also advised Howard Hughes on how to make better airplane wings. She was not compensated for her patent/invention.

Nor does GPS. And FHSS was invented before her (prior art: US1869659A). Apparently what actually happened is that others independently invented DSSS (which is what GPS and WiFi use), found her patent in patent searches, and cited it.pic.twitter.com/4weorfPWI1

The article is also wrong in implying that FHSS has anything to do with communications secrecy in modern protocols, but it doesn't. It was invented as a primitive WWII era secrecy technique, but today the same idea is used for completely different purposes.
