      This is one of several common open hardware models; sometimes the people starting/running the project also do manufacturing, and sometimes others join in specifically to do that and offer it to the public. Personally, I'm glad I don't have to deal with the logistics myself!

      Did I ever mention I did manufacturing and direct-to-customer sales for a certain widget at one point? Fun adventure, but that got real old after the first *looks at files* jfc did I really test, package, and ship 558 of these myself? Yeah, not doing that again.

      I thought it was fun to package 200 copies of a board game but the copies of a board game don't need to be tested

      Testing was actually pretty easy. I had a test app running on a Wii that tested both memory card slots and showed a giant pass/fail green/red on each half of the screen in <1s. Took less time than packaging/labeling/etc. I'm sure the memory card slot connectors hate me though.
