Anyone is free to contribute and, of course, to manufacture it or derivative versions. Manufacturers are responsible for end-user hardware support, and they are welcome and encouraged to work with upstream for any changes and contribute back improvements, as @esden did :)

This is one of several common open hardware models; sometimes the people starting/running the project also do manufacturing, and sometimes others join in specifically to do that and offer it to the public. Personally, I'm glad I don't have to deal with the logistics myself!

Incidentally, I see a low-cost Mac/iDevice Type-C UART interface cable/adapter design in the horizon on the
@AsahiLinux GitHub, and I expect some people will actually want one; I can do O(10) volumes myself, but any takers if there's more demand? Will have other uses too.Show this thread
