If I connect that to an RS-232-ish interface, would it be able to safely figure out what wire is doing what? (I have a treadmill control panel I need to connect to a treadmill with a seemingly identical control panel but apparently a different interface. Same DB9 plug)

for RS-232 you would need a voltage translator; Glasgow only does 0..5V, and RS-232 is usually somewhere between -5..+5 and -12..+12

Thanks!

(but since it has diode clamps you might be able to get away with a 1K resistor in series, for RX). Come to think of it, we tested dead 5V shorts, but we never tested that. I should hook up 12V and -12V via a resistor and see if it survives.
