Storytime: I did some pentesting and advising work for Nintendo after they approached me (via email, not stalking) in 2015. This was professional work on a freelance/consulting basis. That NDA has expired. I won't talk about project details but let's talk about how that went.
Nintendo is a huge corporation. The docs, if you read past the ninja stuff, are evidence of disconnects across branches and cultures. There is no evidence that Iwata was personally aware of or approved Jodi's policies.

Idk man, it's kind of difficult to think that decisions like these don't have the approval of the CEO. At the very least he knew what was happening.

If you read the docs, PR didn't even know until the day before the operation. I've worked for a big corp. Stuff like this happens all the time. The CEO does not know/approve of everything, even big projects. *Especially* not across continents.
