And by the way, for the repairability folks: replaceable RAM on mobile devices is going away for good reason. Two SODIMMs is 128 bits of multi-GHz bus across multiple cm of board and a connector. That *eats* power. This isn't manufacturers being out to screw us, it's physics.

And there is no power reason not to have modular storage. And connectors are pretty small these days. Unless you're building a <6mm thick tablet, you should have modular storage.

Well, my laptop only has 8GB of RAM bc that's the only option I had available when buying it, and now I find myself constantly running out of RAM bc I need VMs with at least 4 GB of RAM, which means I'm left with just not enough RAM for the host to run my other applications

So I'd say while not everyone will encounter this situation, enough people will need RAM upgrades to warrant the existence of laptops with replaceable RAM
