You know, I hope conferences continue to do the online thing from now on. Flying out to the other side of the world is a PITA, and the cost-benefit tends to tilt towards "nah" unless I really like the event. But sit at home in front of a camera? Sure, why not.

Also, don't forget online is more inclusive. Not everyone *can* physically travel due to medical, legal, logistical, or personal reasons.

Honestly, every time I fly around, there's like a week+ of practical overhead, between the flights, jet-lag productivity loss, buffer days, just generally being tired as heck after all the effort, etc. It's fun, but I can't do it >3 times a year.

but the important part about physical presence is hallway tracks, an opportunity to talk to other people in the field, make contacts, etc; talks themselves are just the core part to organize around

But you can also do all of those things online, as Discord has quite aptly demonstrated (doesn't have to be Discord, but that's a proven formula).
