(looking at a laptop power supply connector that used to be pristine this morning but is now absolutely -shredded- by cat teeth) they should put bitterant in the plastic or something

it's about 50/50 between "i am not rich enough to keep buying these power supplies and i have too much chronic pain to regularly fix them" and "i hope the fuzzy asshole doesn't get hurt by the 19 V that lives inside"

these cats have sufficient understanding of cause and effect that if they actually chew through the connector deeply enough to hit the wires they'll learn to not do this again. they've yet to do that though

after i wrote it, i realized that the type-C cable they chewed through today is actually 5 V while not plugged in

hm, it's either at vSafe0V or vSafe5V and i'm not awake enough to read through the spec and figure out which it is exactly

My usb tester lights up when it receives any power from the source even with no sink on the other end for usb type a but plugging in a type c cable from a pd source doesn't turn it on so likely vSafe0v

You're supposed to need at least a resistor on CC to turn on a Type C psu. Those feeding power down the line unconditionally are noncompliant AFAIK.
