That'd be a huge project and who knows what hypervisory things might be hiding inside that chip, but the stuff that honestly excites me most about Apple Silicon is the neural net core and that would need Apple's help.
The neural net stuff wouldn't need Apple's help any more than everything else. I don't plan on prioritizing it, but like everything else on the chip, it's in scope for the project (eventually).

Yeah, but working clean room implementation of net compiler for Apple's neural engine? See huge effort to clean-room implement design synthesizers for a mid-level FPGA with full docs, then multiply that many fold for an arch w/many autonomous compute cores & messaging network.
