Having Mesa also helps a lot, with its OpenGL core and compiler infrastructure. How much do we know about the GPU anyway?
Not much really, other than "tile-based deferred rendering, and PowerVR inspired to some extent".
Btw I work on Mesa as my day job at @igalia, I'll see if I might be able to contribute somehow when you get to the point of needing GPU stuff.
