Okay, so @jix got it first without spoiling it too much, and @datenwolf said it out loud.
The answer is that it sounds exactly the same as a square wave, because it is a square wave, with every frequency component phase shifted by 90 degrees.

IIRC (it's been years…) there is some limited amount of relative phase perception, but it's subtle enough that for synth sounds like this it doesn't matter. If freqs are far apart it matters less, for transients more. Also causes some headaches for time stretching / freq shift.
