Current verdict on Linux on the 2015 Retina iMac 27": - Everything is tiny - amdgpu does not work but radeon does - BT needs a USB reset to work - No audio yet - TB2 works - Desktop is smooth - Even radeon is way better than the Ivy Bridge Intel crap I've been living with for 8y

I'm not moved over yet, this is a test booting my existing OS off of USB, but this will likely become my primary workstation in the coming weeks, after I get around to upgrading its internal storage and CPU.

I just realized 5K isn't actually showing up as an option for display output, but just 4K max?

I remember the time before Intel was decent at graphics for a composited desktop. The GMA950 and GMA900... ah, how much I love Lakeport-G and Grantsdale-G boards.

This Ivy Bridge laptop *used* to be decent, it's just gotten *worse* over the years. Intel really let the driver bitrot.

Yeah, the experience of a (desktop) RX460 totally blows away my Haswell laptop. Maybe tiger lake will fix? One thing to watch for is sometimes on X11 with an unredirected fullscreen window and crusty X11 APIs you can still get tearing. TearFree will fix this in the xorg config.
