Getting really frustrated with the Mac boot process. Has someone actually documented this properly, or do I really need to play a random guesswork game until I stumble upon something that works?

@winocm already answered my exact question already (and her answer is correct and works), so you can stop recommending random alternate bootloaders now, thanks :-)https://twitter.com/winocm/status/1282199345576566784 …Show this thread -
Now figuring out why boot gets stuck on penguins and no text, but that's not an EFI issue any more. Probably missing GPU firmware.

I've done this successfully before but don't remember how (it was an ad-hoc "poke it until it works" process). the procedures I've seen tend to all involve rEFInd which adds yet another layer of indirection and complexity

oh nvm just saw the much better and more complete answer

I tried exactly that a few weeks ago. EFI partition ready but Grub stage 2 didn't load anymore. I couldn't reconfigure/reinstall grub as GPT/EFI then change MBR->GPT successfully. Please document it when you success.

Dunno if you've already tried it, but there's a uefi boot menu called http://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/ That I've used instead of bootcamp, which you.really haven't needed since 2010...
Bootcamp creates a "hybrid" GPT/MBR partition, which causes all sorts of problemsThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Not sure about linux, but with osx/win10 You boot to a uefi shell (from usb) and use the native efi commands to add /edit the boot paths That way both OSs think they're booting directly with no middle stage
