So this thing arrived. First impressions: - SuperSpeed only works in one Type C orientation (no mux) - Audio OK (2ch 48k 16b) - Definitely does 1080p30 uncompressed (YUV 4:2:2) - There may be sharpening - Claims to do 1080p60 but the image becomes softer, so I suspect cheating.pic.twitter.com/nbbe6uN9Vw

It definitely spits out 1080p60 YUV 4:2:2 over USB3, but I think somewhere in between HDMI and that there is a bottleneck and it's getting resampled to something lower. Audio channels are in the right order. No patches needed. Works with USB2, but MJPEG only.

Seems to be the same as this. Signal path seems to be (HDMI) -> ITE HDMI RX -> (tee to ITE HDMI TX) -> (parallel RGB/YUV) -> VS9989 processor -> (parallel RGB/YUV) -> Sunplus USB3 webcam chip -> USB-C (no mux) http://www.vxis.com/html/pdf/VS9989_bf_v1.3.pdf …https://twitter.com/voltagex/status/1271622684263084032 …

I'll defer taking it apart until I decide hacks need to happen. Seems the video processor interface is just I²C, so that should be easy to mess with. Sunplus firmware looks like it might be external, so easy target for hacks there. Quite possibly improvable.

It doesn't expose any UVC controls other than brightess/saturation/contrast/hue, so there is definitely room for improvement there.

Can you test the bit depth on its samples? I've had instances of HDMI capture devices that treat <7 as 0 and the same on the top end too. You don't immediately notice it until you can compare side by side with a capture from a device that does full range.

Can you suggest a test for that?
