the game I poured the last 14 months of my life into will be releasing soonish, and to the best of my knowledge none of the loc team will be credited, nor will we be allowed to say that we worked on it
and that's just kinda the reality of agency work

Localization just isn't a respected profession any more. Back in the 90s translators actually got paid decently and credited, but now it's all agency work... And especially for software, nobody cares about quality, it's all lowest bidder stuff :(

There are still some pretty amazing localization teams around. I would say Nintendo Treehouse is one of them. SqEx does really good work too, and almost anyone who plays FFXIV on non-JP servers will be able to tell you who the l10n lead for the game is (Koji Fox).

Yeah, I was thinking of third party / agency jobs. In-house localization jobs can be pretty good.
