Don't buy an inkjet printer, just get a laser printer. It'll save you money if you factor in ink and make you cry less.

If you do a lot of B&W prints though then totally, get a cheap B&W laser (and maybe a cheap inkjet for color/photos).

I go old school when I want good photos and have prints made at the pharmacy (elsewhere for very high quality).

I've never been able to get good photos out of an inkjet that isn't a custom photo printer. But I haven't tried a really low end color laser either, just a like $200 Xerox, which can hang pretty well with an inkjet for photos.

It's possible low end color lasers have significantly improved since I last had one (Samsung CLP-315), to be fair. That one was kind of meh. These days I have a specific Canon inkjet because it can do direct CD label prints, which is something no laser can do :)
