Got one of those "camlink" USB converters because I was curious about em, and WHOAH I was shocked. UVC output, 20ms delay and signal looks to be properly grabbing 1080P@30. Single chip solution under a small sink and costs under $20. What in the heck is this.pic.twitter.com/J7HYM3cf3M

I tweeted at @EposVox about this too, but I can't find any sources to confirm or deny this: is it Mono only? That would seem weird for an input source, thoughpic.twitter.com/GMwTcjG4li

OMG. I think this is why they claim 96kHz mono. Assuming this isn't a bug in my USB config... these things have a hardware bug which briefly swaps the channels intermittently. Every second or so. So they probably set it to 96k mono as a hack so you won't notice! pic.twitter.com/XGnJ9OQogJ

TL;DR it's stereo but (I think) they pretend to be mono as a hack for a buggy implementation. I have a patch for Linux in the queue to make it work properly as stereo. On Windows/Mac you're probably out of luck.

How/who could we work for a windows solution though? For straight input video input this ofcourse isn't an issue, just curious if we can get "proper" stereo

The problem with Windows is you can't just add a quick fix to the OS driver because it's closed source and written by Microsoft, so you'd have to write your own driver entirely from scratch, and get it signed by Microsoft, and that's a *huge* pain in the ass. Same for OSX.

Let's assume some geeks of us would be fine to sign unsigned drivers, could that work?

Sure, but someone still needs to go write an open source USB audio class driver for Windows. I did a quick search and couldn't find any, let me know if you find one :-)

I did a little google-kungfu-ing and found some Windows UAC2 ASIO open source drivers, based on libusbK - would that potentially work?

That sounds like a userspace driver for ASIO apps (i.e. DAWs and stuff), not a kernel WDDM driver that will make it work like a regular sound card, but I'm not a windows expert.
