That’s a completely circular argument. What do you think “master” means - and where the word came from - in every one of those cases?

"master" in Git derives from "master/slave" in BitKeeper, so I'm afraid that yes, "master" in Git has etymology that leads directly to slavery, even though the "slave" part got dropped in Git. Not all uses of "master" do, but this one does.
