I think these cells were fine, but the Anker pack they were part of stopped charging, and honestly I don't have a use for them so I figured I'd safely discharge and recycle them. Alas, it's taking a while.

It's quite surprising to see an LED powered directly by a LiPo cell, and not getting short immediately. The cell must be having crazy high internal resistance or do these cells come with some internal current limiting protection?

It does not work that way... Those lipo cells habe incredible low internal resistance, but the current is limited by the LED (it just uses only very little amperage).

Is there a reason you’re not discharging with an incandescent bulb or a resistor instead of an LED?

I don't have incandescent bulbs lying around, and resistors are boring.
