TL;DR: it moves Windows Boot Manager to the top of the list so what if you make "Windows Boot Manager" actually boot Linux?

I think that's in BIOS itself? You gotta disable safe boot or whatever. If you're having trouble accessing the option, you have to give your BIOS a password before it'll let you deactivate it.

that is not true. boot order is in EFI vars which, mostly for worse, means that self-centered operating systems can fuck with it. this is absolutely a problem on the windows side.

@AkBKukU just did this with rEFIt and BCDEdit but I'm not sure what he did. -
It was in this thread: https://twitter.com/AkBKukU/status/1275436009807679495 … idk, what Arch uses. Assuming grub you'll probably want to set it to "grubx64.efi" instead of refind. This /should/ fix it barring updates changing the settings.

What's your motherboard model? (I've been using rEFInd to load everything including a Windows installation for a year and I've never had issues with this setup. My best guess is that your MB firmware did nasty things.)

If windows did this, I *think* that means it believes you've made "significant" hardware changes. I'd bet on firmware "value add", but it could also be a legit bug. Do you know what firmware it is, or which IBV excreted it? (Which hw vendor is it?)

That would explain it. I alternately boot this Windows install on bare metal and virtualized. Is there a way to stop it?
